Exterior-grade plywood is a type of plywood manufactured with WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) glue or Type A phenolic adhesive, making it suitable for outdoor use. It is designed to resist moisture, heat, and moderate weather exposure when properly sealed and maintained.

When properly sealed and maintained, exterior plywood can last 5–15 years in Australian outdoor conditions, depending on exposure level, sheet thickness, and finishing quality.

Exterior plywood can tolerate moderate exposure to the elements, but for full weather exposure, it should be:

• Properly coated on all sides

• Installed with flashings, cavities, and ventilation

• For most semi-exposed outdoor projects (like cladding, garden furniture, or shed walls), the best option is Exterior-grade plywood manufactured to AS/NZS 2271 (Australia) or EN 636-2 or EN 636-3 (Europe). These are bonded with Type A phenolic glue (also known as WBP – Weather and Boil Proof), offering moisture resistance for outdoor environments when properly sealed.

• For constant or permanent water exposure (e.g. boat building, marine fixtures, docks), choose Marine Plywood made to AS/NZS 2272 (Australia) or BS 1088 / EN 636-3 EXT / EN 314-2 Class 3 (Europe). These standards require high-grade veneers, void-free cores, and superior bonding for long-term durability in wet conditions.
