How We Pack Plywood for Delivery at Ply Online

Plywood packs ready for delivery

Ply Online Admin |

When you order plywood from us, it’s not just about the sheets - it’s also about how they arrive. We know that damage in transit is frustrating (and expensive), so we take packaging seriously (especially when it comes to delivering interstate).

Here’s how we use plywood to pack plywood:

Full Packs (Factory-Wrapped)

If you're ordering a full pack of plywood (e.g. 30–50 sheets of the same grade and size), it usually comes factory-wrapped, which includes:

  • Plastic wrap or strapping to prevent shifting
  • Timber bearers underneath for forklift access
  • Edge protectors to prevent damage during handling

In most cases, we don’t need to add additional plywood, because the pack is already stable and standardised.

Custom or Mixed Orders

When customers order smaller quantities or mixed sheets (e.g. 5 sheets of hexa, 3 of formply, 4 of laser ply and so on), that’s when we step in with our own plywood-based packing method to ensure safe transport.

We typically:

Use plywood or OSB offcuts as top and bottom protection boards
→ These sacrificial layers protect the face sheets from forklift forks, straps, or weather.

Add Plywood sheets around the sides

→ Especially for high-value or interstate bound packs, we brace the sides to prevent sliding or forklift damage.

Strap everything down securely with heavy-duty strapping
→ Keeps the load tight during handling or transport.

Cardboard corners are placed around the pack, ensuring protection and stability.

Optional: Shrink wrap or plastic film
→ For outdoor delivery or wet-weather risk, we cover with film to reduce moisture exposure.

Why Use Plywood to Protect Plywood?

You might wonder why we use more plywood to protect your plywood. Here’s why:

  • It absorbs impact during transport and handling
  • It provides flat, even pressure distribution for strapping
  • It ensures the actual product remains clean and unmarked
  • It's cost-effective.  We often use offcuts or recycled pieces that still do the job

Plus, if you're in construction or manufacturing, you can reuse the packing plywood as part of your job, and nothing goes to waste.

Sustainability Tip

Whenever possible, we use offcuts, recycled plywood, or reusable bearers for packing. If you don’t need the protection layers, let us know, and we can pack lighter to reduce waste and cost. We don’t cut corners on packing and make sure your plywood gets to you flat, dry, and damage-free - 100% ready to go straight to site or workshop.
