Moisture Risk Guide for Plywood

It helps you:

  • Understand how risky your moisture exposure really is
  • Choose a safer plywood category for the situation
  • Avoid common failure points (especially cut edges and trapped moisture)
  • Plan the right protection steps (sealing, coatings, ventilation)

It does not:

  • Replace engineering or certification requirements
  • Guarantee compliance for structural applications
  • Override your project specifications

What Do the Numbers Mean?

Your score shows how demanding the moisture conditions are for your project. The higher the number, the more exposure your plywood will face.

0-4 → Low Risk: Dry interior conditions

5-7 → Moderate Risk: Moisture present or humidity cycles

8-10 → High Risk: Regular exposure or structural demand

11+ → Severe Risk: High or fully exposed environment

This is not a quality rating, it’s a risk indicator based on your answers.

Why moisture risk matters

In Australia, panels deal with humidity swings, heat, UV exposure, and wind-driven rain. Even “waterproof glue” doesn’t make a panel waterproof if water can enter through cut edges, fasteners, or trapped cavities.

Our calculator helps you match the panel to the exposure level, and reminds you of the detailing steps (edge sealing, ventilation, coatings) that usually decide whether plywood lasts 2 years or 20.
